Chris Hall at London 2026

Chris Hall will be at the London Show on Saturday, 24th October, and has sent out an announcement of sorts – meaning it’s less of an announcement, and more of an article. And by “more of an article” I actually mean “an article” – he has provided an article to Archive Magazine, and says it will be appearing in the issue that will be available for subscribers to pick up at the show on Saturday, and talks about what visitors will be able to see on his stand.

As the article will be appearing in Archive, I don’t want to publish it here as Chris’ announcement, so instead I’ll just post a few highlights (damn it, Chris, you’re making me do some work here!) If you want to read in more detail about what he’ll be showing, you’d best head to Harrow on Saturday and pick up a copy of Archive Magazine (and, of course, pop by Chris’ table for a chat!)

When there, you’ll see the computers he’ll have with him set up and networked as they normally would be at home – with no changes, other than being a hundred or so miles East of where they are usually set up. The reason he is able to connect them this way is a side effect of some problems he encountered when upgrading his internet connection to full fibre broadband.

One of those computers will be based around a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5. As keen RISC OS users should be aware, that’s a 64-bit model, which can’t run RISC OS – except it can, if it’s RISC OS for Linux (a build of RISC OS that runs as an executable program from within a Linux operating system on the Pi, because its CPU includes a 32-bit mode that can be used this way).

Chris will also have a selection of software with him, and he’ll be handing some out for free on USB memory sticks (while stocks last) – which includes his family tree application, which was previously only available in exchange for a little cash. He says the free software amounts to some 242 megabytes, zipped up onto a 128 megabyte device.

Also while stocks last are his Impression User Manuals, standing in at 370 pages and printed in full colour. These cover Impression Style, Publisher, and Publisher Plus – and if you buy one of these you’ll get a download link for Publisher Plus 5.13, courtesy of RISC OS Developments.
